Property Tax Bill Information
Make checks payable to EDGAR COUNTY COLLECTOR.
The bill payment stub (bottom of the page) must be included with any payment by mail, at our office or the bank.
If your mortgage company pays your taxes for you, it is your responsibility to forward the bill to them.
If you no longer own this property, forward the bill to the new owner or contact our office.
You may pay both installments on or before the first due date, or pay each installment separately, on or before their respective due dates.
Late payments – a penalty of 1.5% per month or portion thereof will be charged on any late payment according to state law. Late payment received without the correct penalty will be returned.
Failure to receive a tax bill or receiving it late, for any reason, will not relieve the property owner from responsibility for paying taxes, penalties and fees.
Senior citizens, disabled veterans and disabled persons may be eligible for certain exemptions, Contact the County Assessment Office for information 217-466-7418.
Options for Paying Property Taxes
AT OUR OFFICE: Bring your entire bill if you want it stamped to show proof of payment. We accept cash, check, cashier check, money order, or credit/debit card. If using a credit or debit card there will be a 2.25% processing fee charged by the processing company. This is subject to change at their discretion.
DROP BOX: Drop your payment and payment stub in an envelope into the drop box on the front of the building.
BY MAIL: Send check with payment stubs to above address. Mailed payments must be postmarked on or before the due date to avoid penalty.
ONLINE WITH CREDIT/DEBIT CARD OR ECHECK (Processing Fees Apply)
AT MOST LOCAL BANKS: Please call our office to find out which banks within the county accepts property tax payments. Take your entire bill for them to stamp to show proof of payment. Banks cannot accept payments after 2nd installment due date.
