IT Security Tips
Security in this modern world of cloud connected lives and finances is an ever-changing topic of concern and discussion.
Many dismiss the need for tight security for online accounts and mix personal and business information typically without even realizing it.
For instance, did you know that logging into a browser like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge will sync all the information stored in your browser to any other device you have logged into? This typically include passwords, credit cards and addresses. It can also include extensions. This feature is intended to make it easy to have your information on hand wherever you may travel. It often happens with no prompt or warning.
The problem is this information remains on the browser you’ve logged into potentially making it accessible to anyone that also uses that machine. Furthermore, this can mix your personal information with business information making it nearly impossible to disentangle the data without wiping the machine.
Additionally, this data could potentially be scraped out of the browser by a malicious website script in plain text without anyone ever being aware of it. Browsers, by default, are NOT secure.
This is a perfect example of convenience destroying privacy and security.
Obviously, our concern is primarily with breaches of business-related data. This requires constant digital vigilance and regular staff training. Well-trained staff will hopefully also benefit personally from their workplace training.
